The Payload Launch Site Support Services (PLSSS) program supports the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) Office of Space Launch (OSL) with launch mission activities at Vandenberg, SFB and Cape Canaveral, SFS. We provide capabilities for satellite transportation, propellant loading operations, and radio frequency detection, plus the operation and sustainment of cleanrooms in satellite processing and other support facilities.
Working side by side with our Transportation, Propellant, Radio Frequency, and Facility Capability Owners at the Vandenberg SFB location, you'll use your education, experience and growing expertise to ensure Mission success.
We are seeking a Material & Process Engineer who will develop and implement contamination control processes used in spacecraft processing facilities and launch sites. You will establish and activate cleanroom protocols, then instruct users and enforce compliance. Using your troubleshooting skills you will monitor and analyze particulate and molecular contamination, coating and process anomalies, then create effective solutions. Your growing expertise will contribute to materials and process selection, qualification, testing, and failure analysis across the PLSSS program.
In this role you will:
--- Develop, maintain, and perform tests to collect and analyze particulate and molecular contamination
--- Direct maintenance crews and testing personnel to maintain compliance with established cleanliness levels.
--- Coordinate with payload customers to evaluate mission unique requirements and ensure compliance.
--- Support active mission operations as a Test Conductor
--- Review and approve test procedures, work orders, and engineering drawings.
--- Consult with and approve subcontractor material processing procedures.
--- Execute design projects to fabricate solutions to unique problems
--- Become the technical subject matter expert to assure successful cleanliness application and performance.
We're looking for:
--- A self-starter who implements solutions to technical issues
--- A motivated individual to work closely with a multidisciplinary and diverse team to resolve problems
--- Someone able to handle shifting priorities, multiple projects and timeline pressure to meet deadlines
--- Someone comfortable communicating in a variety of forums to management and program representatives
Basic Qualifications:
--- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college (Materials Science or Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical or Corrosion Engineering or related discipline preferred) or equivalent experience/combined education.
--- General knowledge of chemistry. Good understanding of chemicals in various forms and related incompatibilities to prevent undesirable chemical reactions.
--- Able to work in a launch site environment, including climbing stairs or evacuating while wearing a breathing apparatus.
--- Ability to travel and to work overtime and odd shifts, if required to support Mission Operations.
--- Must be a US Citizen. Will be subject to a government security investigation, and must meet eligibility requirements for an elevated clearance for access to classified information.
Desired Skills:
--- Familiar with screening/reviewing materials for specific applications
--- Knowledge of root cause analysis or other anomaly review process
--- Non-conformance and failure analysis disposition experience
--- Author of technical documents, test plans, test procedures, analysis reports
--- Experience implementing contamination control for space applications or related field
--- Experience working in a cleanroom environment and/or precision cleaning of hardware
--- Familiar with screening/reviewing paint and coating materials for specific applications
--- Familiar with manual microscope operation and automated image analysis inspection for particulate
--- Knowledge of laboratory apparatus and equipment
--- Experience with Launch Base infrastructure and launch operations
--- Active Top Secret clearance

Ability to Work Remotely: Onsite Full-time: The work associated with this position will be performed onsite at a designated Lockheed Martin facility.
Work Schedules: Lockheed Martin supports a variety of alternate work schedules that provide additional flexibility to our employees. Schedules range from standard 40 hours over a five day work week while others may be condensed. These condensed schedules provide employees with additional time away from the office and are in addition to our Paid Time off benefits.
Schedule for this Position: 9x80 every other Friday off
Pay Rate:
The annual base salary range for this position in California or New York City is $77,600 - $146,000. Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. Lockheed Martin considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/ training, key skills as well as market and business considerations when extending an offer.
