The Nurse Shift Manager will take on patient assignments and provide direct patient care when necessary. They are expected to fulfill the Charge Nurse role and manage the department. The role includes assisting with patient care, triaging ambulance patients, starting IVs, and administering medications as needed. Nurse Shift Managers will provide support wherever required within the department. This facility has 21 beds, with a fast track staffed by mid-level providers and LVNs. The patient-to-nurse ratio is 1 to 4; however, for ICU patients, it will be 1 to 2. The charting system used is Cerner. There are Nurse Aides and Emergency Department Technicians who are EMTs or aides from other units available for support. The position requires working four weekend shifts in a four-week schedule. One major and one minor holiday requirement applies. Scrub color must be navy blue, and any undershirts must also be navy, white, or black. The department has 24/7 respiratory therapy and pharmacy services available. Self-scheduling is allowed, but schedules are finalized by management to ensure balance. Floating may occur between two facilities, with a two-hour notice required before the start of the shift. Mid-shift floating may also happen. Typical patients include a range of emergency cases, and staff may also care for MedSurg Tele holds. The facility is a Primary Stroke Center. The team operates with a focus on teamwork and adaptability. Nurse Shift Managers must be available for shifts without accommodating other work schedules. The cancellation policy allows for the cancellation of up to four shifts during the assignment. Nurse Shift Managers are expected to handle a high-volume workflow, with varying patient numbers.
